Prof. Michael Steinlauf of Gratz College will speak on I. L. Peretz and the revolution of 1905 at YIVO in Yiddish on Thursday, 7:00 PM, February 6th. The 1905 revolution motivated the great Yiddish writer to participate in new cultural, artistic and political arenas until his death in 1915. Itzik Gottesman spoke with Dr. Steinlauf on the subject of his talk.

There is no single Yiddish collection in the YIVO Library. But the 40,000 Yiddish-language titles comprise the largest collection of Yiddish books in the world.

The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research is opening a new exhibition: Classic Yiddish Writers in Caricature. The exhibition showcases caricature portrayals of Yiddish’s “Di klasiker” – the three classic authors of Yiddish literature, Mendele Moykher-Sforim (S.Y. Abramovitsh), Y.L. Peretz, and Sholem Aleichem (Sholem Rabinovitsh).
