Jeffrey Yoskowitz and Liz Alpern

The YIVO Institute is re-launching its NextGen program and we want you to be part of our maiden event. For one night only, The Gefilteria’s innovative co-founders, Liz Alpern and Jeffrey Yoskowitz are bringing the best-selling Vilna Vegetarian Cookbook back to life in an exclusive, all-vegetarian cooking demonstration and tasting.

Fania Lewando’s 1938 cookbook was donated to YIVO after being re-discovered in 1995. Last year, we re-published and shared the book with the world. Its overwhelming popularity is proof that artifacts of our culture can always be made new again.

Jeffrey and Liz turned their vision for re-imagining Old World Jewish cuisine into a contemporary brand that reaches coast-to-coast and has landed them on the Forbes Magazine Top 30-Under-30 list. They even did some of their research in the YIVO archives.

Watch Jeffrey and Liz prepare a delicious menu inspired by Lewando’s recipes at the stunning Upper West Side townhouse of YIVO trustee Irene Pletka. Come for the demo and then enjoy the food with great company.

YIVO NextGen is focused on developing unique programming tailored to our growing 22-45 year-old community. We create interesting spaces for people to come together, network, make new friends, and celebrate YIVO’s great mission of preserving Eastern European and Russian Jewish culture for generations to come.
