A Legend of Her Time

Ida Kaminska was born in 1899, daughter of the great Yiddish actress Esther-Rachel Kaminska. Her career spanned most of the history of Yiddish theater, beginning in interwar Poland where she performed as a young actress and co-founded the Warsaw Yiddish Art Theater (WIKT) ensemble, and continuing during WWII in Soviet territories. After the war, she co-founded the Jewish State Theater in Warsaw.
